Abstract

Directional excitation and flexible manipulation of Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs) with metallic nanostructure is a vital issue for functional plasmonic applications. Here, based on the interference of SPPs generated by the two slits, unidirectional and efficient SPP excitation can be realized with metallic nanoslits. Furthermore, the use of binary metallic blazing grating to realize directional SPP excitation under normal incidence is preliminarily investigated. Potential functional applications based on the directional SPPs excitation are proposed, such as integrating with other plasmonic components to realize selective coupling of SPPs into different ports for the application in plasmonic circuitry.
